In your issue of the 27th June last the South China
Morning Post published an official report of the proceedings of the Chinese Chamber of Germerce of Hongkang, held the previous
1 day. In these proceedings some unjustifiable charges were made
against the Consulate for Ohile on the complaint of four Chinese citizens, which complaint was apparent v accepted in its entirety by the said Chamber of Cameros,
As the Genendar Representative of Chils in this Colony
and im view of the fact that the Chinese Chamber of Commerce
refused to let me have the names and addresses of the complain-
ants and other particulars span which these grave charges
against the Chilean Canedate were made and accepted by them,
in justice to myself I fed it my duty to state the full facta
matter, which are as follows:
of
I bag to state that at the the four above-mentior
«ed Chinese complainants started their trip to Chile, Chinese immigration to that country was suspended; and that, being aware of this feet and mable to get their documents legalised and their passports vized in this Consul ake enabling them to arrive safely in Chile, they want as passengers to Balbos (Panama) in transit to Chile, thus attempting to evade the Chilean regulations and the interference of the Chilean Consul
in Hongkong.
No documents of any kind were issued by my predecess- or (I having only been indarge since February last) or anyone in this Consulate to the four complaining Chinese authorising them to enter Chilean territory.
The statement, therefore, in the report now
